Scope and Objectives
The International Journal of Turkish Studies gives priority to social, economic, cultural, demographic and political themes within the conceptual vista of the Turkish studies. Its historical and geographical scope includes the Ottoman state (in the Balkans and the Middle East), Republican Turkey, and the Turkic world. Taking a broad, interdisciplinary and thematic approach, the Journal aims to present Turkish history not in “national” garb but in objective, impartial fashion.
The International Journal of Turkish Studies is a refereed journal, and acceptance of articles for publication is subject to an anonymous peer review.
The International Journal of Turkish Studies is abstracted and indexed in Historical Abstracts with Full Text, Social Sciences Full Text, ProQuest, Gale/Cengage Academic Research Database, Academic Search Complete, Turkologischer Anzeigeer, America: History and Life, Historical Abstracts, Current Contents of Periodicals on Middle East, International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS), International Bibliography of Periodical Literature in the Humanities and Social Sciences (IBZ), International Bibliography of Book Reviews of Scholarly Literature in the Humanities and Social Sciences (IBR), Index Islamicus, Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies, Periodica Islamica, TOC Premier, Ulrich’s Periodicals, Book Review Digest Plus, Omnifile Mega.
Notes for Contributors
The editors welcome submissions of articles for consideration. Manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor, by e-mail attachment, in Microsoft Word format. Articles must be in English and should not exceed 10,000 words. They must be based on original research and careful analysis of archival and other primary source materials. Manuscripts should not be submitted simultaneously to any other publisher. They must not previously have been published elsewhere. Upon publication, authors will receive one copy of that volume. The Journal does not provide offprints.
The entire manuscript—including main text, notes, tables, and footnotes—must be typed, double-spaced in 12-point font. The Journal conforms to the Chicago Manual of Style, latest edition. Footnotes, numbered consecutively throughout the text, should appear at the bottom of the text page. Tables and figures must be cited in the text, (e.g., see table 1), but may be interspersed within the text or placed at the end. When appropriate, photos and maps may be submitted with the manuscript to be used at the editor’s discretion. All terms from languages using non-Roman alphabets must be fully transliterated with diacritical marks. For Ottoman Turkish, modern Turkish orthography must be used.
